27. Leroy Butler

The Packers of the 1990s are largely remembered for two people- Brett Favre and Reggie White. While they obviously deserve a lump sum of the credit for Green Bay’s success, let’s not forget how good and vital Leroy Butler was to those great Packers teams.

Butler was a second round pick by the Packers out of Florida State in 1990. He picked off three passes in his rookie year before becoming a starter in his sophomore campaign. He had three more interceptions in 1991, and was moved to safety following the season, which is really where he came into his own.

Butler made his first Pro Bowl in 1993, as well as earning an All-Pro selection for the season he had. He intercepted six passes and tallied 90 tackles to go along with two forced fumbles. From 1995-97, Butler had five interceptions in each season, being named All-Pro in 1996 and 1997.

He is one of the best defensive players in Green Bay Packers history, which is definitely saying something. He was a four-time Pro Bowler, as well as earning four All-Pro selections. He is a member of the NFL’s All-Decade team for the 1990s, and one of the most underrated players in history.
