Trevor Story

Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story enters free agency coming off his worst offensive season, but the two-time Silver Slugger has the stats to back up his batting.

Story will command a hefty sum in the offseason, and the Cardinals could be the team to sign him. It’s an area of need for St. Louis as they shop the market for talent at the position.

An earlier offseason report indicated that St. Louis is one of nine teams likely to sign Story, although a deal has yet to materialize. If Story is open to taking a shorter deal to increase his current value, the Cardinals could pair him with former Rockies teammate Nolan Arenado to control the left infield.

BetSided projected odds for where Story will sign next, and the Cardinals make the list at +1000 odds. While there’s a stronger feeling that Story could sign with the Astros once Correa is officially gone, the Cardinals rank fourth in most likely teams to sign Story. Story would be an upgrade to current shortstop Paul DeJong, who batted .197 last season.

“Story gives the Cardinals a little boost in the lineup and it would separate them from the weak NL Central,” concludes Thomas Snodgrass, and it’s hard to disagree.
