2. Playing Bully Ball

Conversely to the others listed so far, the Bulls surpassed expectations and got off to a hot start. Zach LaVine raised the team’s ceiling by ascending to another level, while DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic’s veteran savvy raised the floor.

Chicago looks poised to challenge the top of the Eastern Conference as they stand. However, their talent and depth set them up to go big game hunting before the trade deadline.

Jerami Grant is their perfect target. Aside from sliding into the timeline of the Bulls starters, he fits on the court too and would give another facet for opponents to deal with.

Of course, Chicago remains high on Patrick Williams — whom they drafted No. 4 overall in 2020 — and his two-way upside, but he’s slated to miss the rest of the season after undergoing wrist surgery. Meanwhile, Coby White fell down the depth chart after Chicago inked Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso this summer and Troy Brown barely plays 10 minutes a game. The Bulls are ready to win now and Grant helps them there.

Detroit is a few years (at least) from contending and by the time it’s ready, Grant will be declining or gone elsewhere. Williams would give them a reasonable facsimile, plus young pieces and a first-rounder add to their cache of flippable assets.
