5 bold predictions for Raiders against Cowboys
By John Buhler
1. The 300-yard passing threshold by Derek Carr will decide who wins this game
While football is a sport where anything and everything can happen, there is only one guarantee in the NFL this season. If Derek Carr throws for over 300 yards in a game, the Raiders win. If they do not, they lose. It is that simple. The one time he threw for 296 yards, that resulted in a defeat to the New York Giants, coinciding with the start of the current tailspin this team has been on of late.
So the big question is if Carr will throw for over 300 yards vs. the Cowboys defense on Thursday afternoon? With the 105 coming from Darren Waller, the 85 coming from Hunter Renfrow and the 25 coming from Kenyan Drake out of the backfield, that gives Carr 215 on the afternoon between those three receiving targets. The question is where will he be picking up the other 85 to win it.
One would think Bryan Edwards would need to be the fourth receiving target to potentially get Carr within a few plays of that threshold. He also probably needs a grab or two out of the backfield from Josh Jacobs. After that, maybe Zay Jones can break one off to get Carr and the Raiders passing attack past that most crucial 300-yard threshold? This one will go down to the wire.
If the Raiders want any hope of beating the Cowboys, Carr has to throw for over 300 yards, period.
