6. Oklahoma State Cowboys

On a day in which longstanding rivalry streaks were coming to an end, it’s only fitting that Mike Gundy was able to get over the hump — a rare feat for him — in Bedlam, even overcoming some huge mistakes that normally would’ve sunk Oklahoma State. However, they tightened up defensively in the biggest moments, shut the Sooners out in the second half, and got the 37-33 win over their hated in-state rivals.

Not only was it just the third win in 19 years for the Cowboys in this rivalry matchup but it also keeps a dream alive. Oklahoma State is very much alive in the College Football Playoff race and, if they win against Baylor in the Big 12 Championship Game along with a little help, they can make it into the top four. Talk about a way to wholly rewrite history for the Pokes after falling short so many times.

5. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

There was little doubt that Notre Dame was the better team in a matchup against Stanford but the Irish just needed to not get caught up in a potential letdown spot and take care of business. With an outside shot at the College Football Playoff still in their crosshairs, Brian Kelly and his team went out and dominated the Cardinal in Palo Alto.

It was a game that was truly never in doubt en route to a 45-14 final score. The big question now, though, is what kind of help the Irish will get after finishing an 11-1 regular season. They obviously don’t have a conference championship game lying ahead but they could still get into the top four if the right teams lose and chips fall as they may.
