Maybe Cam Newton should have stayed retire because that was so rough!

While it was a cool story to see Cam Newton rejoin the team that drafted him, there is a reason why the Carolina Panthers moved off him when they did two years ago. The former No. 1 overall pick out of Auburn might still be in his early 30s, but he does not have it any more. This was the second start he has made since rejoining the Panthers and he was awful vs. the Miami Dolphins.

Carolina got taken to the woodshed 33-10 down in South Beach. The Panthers now have the worst record in the NFC South at 5-7 after their latest loss. Newton was especially horrible vs. Miami. He completed 5-of-21 passes for 92 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions. Newton may have had three carries a touchdown, but he cannot start for the Panthers going forward.

His counterpart Tua Tagovailoa was infinitely better than him. It got so bad that P.J. Walker had to come in and clean up Newton’s mess down in Miami. Though there is value in using Newton in the red zone, Panthers head coach Matt Rhule needs to start his former Temple quarterback Walker over him the rest of the way. It also serves Carolina to venture into drafting a new signal-caller.

Somehow, someway, Newton has been worse for the Panthers this year than Sam Darnold was.
