Cardinals rumors: St. Louis should sign shutdown closer

Bullpen struggles led to the Cardinals untimely demise in the playoffs, and it’s something St. Louis should take care of before the looming lockout, if they can.

So, what’s the move? Look no further than the team that knocked out the Cardinals in the Wild Card game, the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Kenley Jansen is likely to land a multiyear deal in free agency, which makes him unlikely to stay put in L.A. with the Dodgers. Meanwhile, after missing out on Scherzer, the Cardinals have the flexibility to give Jansen what he wants.

Jansen saved 38 games last season with the Dodgers, and had an ERA just over two. He’s experienced, both in the regular season and playoffs, and still has plenty left to give at just 34 years old.

The Cardinals are World Series or bust. So, why not bring in a closer who’s won one of those already?
