Trevor Bauer is catching some heat on Twitter after the controversial pitcher commented on Max Scherzer’s new contract with the New York Mets.
One of baseball’s most controversial voices also happens to be one that draws attention whenever he has something to say. Trevor Bauer, who has become more active online since he initially stepped away from social media after sexual assault allegations were made against him, is weighing in on a former teammate’s new contract.
Specifically, Bauer is talking about Max Scherzer’s new deal with the New York Mets.
Short term deal for high AAV huh? Hmmm. Interesting. Congrats Max!

Bauer, no stranger to controversy, has been receiving plenty of replies who aren’t thrilled that he’s weighing in on the matter.
Bauer appears to be referencing the way Scherzer’s contract is structured in a manner that has been similar to the way some of his own contracts have been set up over the past few years.
While Bauer famously utilized short-term contracts in recent seasons, he’s not the only player to ever benefit from deals structured in this manner, even if he did have a hand in making them more popular for older players and guys who are interested in moving around. Still, not everyone seems excited that Bauer put himself in the middle of Scherzer’s contract conversation.

You aren’t a trend setter. The guy signed a similar deal because he’s 37 lol. He wasn’t get offers for 5-7 years lmao

Again, Bauer is no stranger to controversy.
Even before the assault allegations (which he has denied), Bauer seemingly built an image around his ego and opinions. He’s not generally someone who sits back quietly and lets the baseball world go on about its business without commenting on one matter or another.
The fact that he’s chiming in on Scherzer’s new deal with New York shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. The Dodgers acquired Scherzer after Bauer was sidelined in light of the sexual assault allegations raised against him.
Now Los Angeles is tasked with navigating a roster that is tied up in paying Bauer without a clear and obvious replacement ready to go. That’s not an enviable situation.
