Melvin Gordon, Javonte Williams account for 200 yards from scrimmage (if Gordon plays)

If there was one reason why Denver’s offense succeeded against Los Angeles, it is due to the play of both of their running backs — Melvin Gordon and Javonte Williams.

Denver’s offense took a hit after quarterback Teddy Bridgewater suffered a lower leg injury in the second quarter. That forced head coach Vic Fangio to call in Drew Lock to play under center, and he was far from impressive. Despite all of this, both Gordon and Williams thrived in the offense.

Gordon carried the ball 17 times, where he rushed for a total of 83 yards. He also caught one-of-two targets for five yards.

As for Williams, he made more of an impact in the passing game, where he hauled in three-of-four targets for 57 yards. One of those catches was on a screen pass by Bridgewater, which the rookie took for a huge 42-yard gain. Additionally, Williams ran for 54 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries.

Denver utilizing both Gordon and Williams worked out perfectly. Given that Bridgewater will be banged up with a shin injury heading into Week 13, he may rely heavily on both backs in both the running and passing game. So, we boldly predict that both backs will account for 200 yards of Denver’s offense.

UPDATE: Melvin Gordon is listed as doubtful for the Chiefs game as of Friday due to a hip injury.
