Following their latest crushing loss, it’s time for the Minnesota Vikings to go out and find a new head coach. It’s time to move on from Mike Zimmer.

Alright. It’s time. The Minnesota Vikings need to move on from Mike Zimmer. Following yet another disappointing loss, this time against a previously winless Detroit Lions team, the Vikings need to go ahead and find a new head coach.

The Vikings fell to 5-7 after their heartbreaking loss to the 1-10-1 Lions. This is a game that Minnesota had a chance to jump back into after falling behind 20-6 by the time halftime rolled around. But, despite an attempt at a comeback, Detroit held on to win 29-27 thanks to an 11-yard pass touchdown from Jared Goff.

Now, in Zimmer’s eighth season with the Vikings, there’s essentially no path for Minnesota to get this year turned around. They are almost certainly bound to miss the playoffs and Zimmer offers no real upside moving forward.

It’s time to move on. As such, here are three names the Vikings should consider as they search for a new head coach.

Minnesota Vikings: 3 potential replacements for Mike Zimmer

3. Kellen Moore

A young coach on the rise, some believe that Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore should get a shot at a head coaching vacancy sooner rather than later. The 33-year-old offensive coordinator has started to prove he can be a difference maker thanks to the way his offense, centered around Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, can thrive.

Moore has been the Cowboys’ offensive coordinator for three seasons now and this year is arguably the best his offense has looked. Right now, Dallas is averaging 29.4 points per game as the Cowboys’ offense is among the NFL’s best in multiple categories.

He’s doing a pretty good job of properly utilizing some impressive and talented players.

Prior to coaching, Moore was a quarterback for the Cowboys from 2015 through 2017. Before he made it to Dallas, Moore was in Detroit from 2012 through 2014.

Moore is still fairly young and he doesn’t exactly have an extensive coaching record. If the Vikings want someone with a more extensive resume, there are options out there.
