NFL power rankings, Week 14: Lions win (not a typo)
Joe Judge’s defense came up big last week in stifling the rival Eagles. Now the Giants made their way to South Florida hoping to cool off the rejuvenated Dolphins. Veteran Mike Glennon got the start in place of injured Daniel Jones and the New York offense managed only 250 total yards.
Glennon threw for just 187 yards, was sacked three times and also threw an interception. The Giants’ ground game managed 91 yards, 55 of those by Saquon Barkley.
On Thanksgiving, the Bears snapped a five-game losing streak via a last-second win at Detroit. Now the team returned home to take on the much-improved Cardinals. Veteran quarterback Andy Dalton had a forgettable afternoon despite throwing for 229 yards and a pair of scores. He served up four interceptions and was sacked three times.
The Bears ran 20 more plays (71) than the Cards (51) but Chicago failed to come up with a takeaway.
Off a 25-point loss to the Bills on Thanksgiving night, the Saints were at home for the second straight Thursday and took on the NFC East-leading Cowboys. Taysom Hill would become the team’s third different starting quarterback and he suffered a finger injury during the game.
The versatile performer totaled 101 yards on the ground and 264 yards and two scores through the air. But he also served up four interceptions, one of those taken back for a score.
Matt Rhule’s team got off a surprising 3-0 start. But the team has had its ups and downs since and have dropped seven of their last nine contests. The Panthers find themselves knotted with the Falcons and Saints in the NFC South and all three teams own identical 5-7 records.
Cam Newton is the club’s third different starting quarterback this year. And on Sunday, the team announced that it has parted ways with offensive coordinator Joe Brady.
