3. Javonte Williams, Denver Broncos (vs. DET)

Denver Broncos’ fans and fantasy managers got a glimpse of what Javonte Williams can do when he has the backfield to himself. On a rather disappointing night for the Broncos, Williams was the lone bright spot, carrying the ball 23 times for 102 yards, adding 6 catches for 76 yards and a touchdown through the air. He looked truly elite, and he gets an excellent matchup this week.

The Lions are a popular smash-spot among fantasy managers this season, and for good reason. They’re allowing the third-most fantasy points to running backs this year. If Williams can play anything close to how he did against a better ranked Kansas City defense, there’s no telling what he will do to Detroit.

His upside this week depends on the health of Melvin Gordon, who is the second piece of a 50-50 timeshare in Denver’s backfield. If Gordon plays, Williams may still lead the attack after his performance Sunday night. If Gordon doesn’t play, Williams has overall RB1 upside against the fifth-worst Detroit run defense allowing 131.1 rushing yards per game.
