Bold Prediction #5: Stick with Mark Ingram even if Alvin Kamara plays
Mark Ingram has been the workhorse in the backfield for the New Orleans Saints with Alvin Kamara missing action for the last month. The Saints have been very slow to bring Kamara back into the fold, but he looks like he should be on the way to returning this week.
The Saints are on the other side of Zach Wilson, and the Jets rushing defense is the worst in the league. They allow 35 points per game to the running back position. That’s an insane number. They’ve allowed 18 touchdowns on the ground alone. Teams are gashing the Jets for huge runs every single week.
The Saints are going to go light with Kamara’s workload, so Ingram is going to be the benefactor of those big holes. Ingram was pretty bad last week against the Dallas Cowboys, but it was a weird week with the Thursday game and the Saints came out very flat. Ingram was good the two weeks prior to the bye week.
Again, it’s the fact that this is the Jets that makes this a great matchup. Don’t think too much into this. Kamara will get his carries, and he might do more in five carries than Ingram does with ten, but the fact that Ingram is getting those ten carries against the defense is valuable.
