6. Tyler Van Dyke, QB, Miami

Despite the fact that the Miami Hurricanes fell short of expectations overall this season, the simple truth of the matter is that they may have found the quarterback that will be able to lead them into the future under new head coach Mario Cristobal.

Tyler Van Dyke started the year behind veteran D’Eriq King but the redshirt freshman got better and continued to flash throughout the year as the starter. In the end, he finished his season with 2,931 yards, 25 touchdowns and six interceptions in only 10 games.

Now that Cristobal is coming and, presumably, bringing more talent with him, Van Dyke should qualify wholly as a dark horse candidate who could very much come up and put Miami back on the map right away in the new era for the Hurricanes.

5. TreVeyon Henderson, RB, Ohio State

Because of the numbers that Stroud put up in the passing offense and, partially, because he was often splitting time in the backfield, the unreal freshman season that running back TreVeyon Henderson put together for the Buckeyes this year was truly eye-popping.

Henderson only had 167 carries on the season but took them for 1,172 yards and 15 touchdowns to go along with 285 receiving yards and four more scores.

While Bijan Robinson has a claim as the Texas running back, we know Ohio State is going to be in the mix in addition to the fact that backs are often overlooked for the Heisman in this day and age. If one is going to crack the finalists or perhaps win the award in the 2022 season, though, Henderson clearly has the best chance.
