16. 2004 New England Patriots

By 2004, it was evident that the Patriots were going to be among the league’s best teams for a long time. They were coming off their second Super Bowl in three seasons and looking for their third to establish themselves as a true dynasty.

Once again, New England was dominant. They went 14-2 throughout the regular season, and were dangerous on each side of the ball. They were the fourth highest scoring team in the NFL, averaging 27.3 points per game. They were the seventh best offense in terms of total yards on the season, and ranked fifth in passing offense.

Defensively, the Patriots allowed the second fewest points in the league, allowing just 260 points all season. They were also top 10 in fewest yards allowed and takeaways.

New England beat up on Peyton Manning and the Colts in the Divisional Round 20-3 before having a rematch with the Pittsburgh Steelers in Heinz Field, where they had lost earlier in the season. The Patriots got their revenge, beating Pittsburgh 41-27 in the AFC Championship Game and advancing to the Super Bowl. The Patriots beat the Philadelphia Eagles 24-21, getting their third championship in four seasons.
