Top 30 NFL teams in history
28. 2019 Kansas City Chiefs
It was tempting to put the 2018 Chiefs on this list based solely on the fact that Patrick Mahomes had a historic season. That said, their defense was mediocre that season. 2019, everything came together.
Mahomes led the Chiefs offense to score the fifth most points in the NFL, and they topped 6,000 yards offensively which was good for sixth in the league. Their passing game was the fifth best in the NFL. The Chiefs also had the third fewest turnovers in the league in 2019.
Defensively, Kansas CIty had massive improvements from the year prior. They finished seventh in points against and were tenth in the NFL in takeaways.
In the playoffs, things seemed grim for the Chiefs. They were trailing 24-3 to the Texans before storming back and winning 51-31. In the Super Bowl, they pulled off another comeback. They went into the fourth quarter trailing 20-10 to the 49ers before scoring 21 points in the final quarter to claim a Super Bowl victory. The two season run that the Chiefs went on from 2018-19 established Mahomes as the best quarterback in the NFL, and made the Chiefs the team to beat in the NFL.
