2022 NFL Mock Draft: Top edge rushers kick off first round, go 1-2

Picks No. 4 through 6

New York Jets. Evan Neal. 4. player. 30. . Offensive Tackle

On Sunday, the New York Jets played host to the New Orleans Saints in a game that looked pretty winnable for Robert Saleh’s team. However, the offense was downright bad, and in the end, they failed to score a single touchdown against a down Saints team in front of the home crowd.

Quarterback Zach Wilson has shown some flashes this season, but he is a long way from being a legitimate starter in this league, mostly due to the fact he is usually running for his life. With pick No. 4, the Jets get him some help, adding Alabama left tackle Evan Neal, the best all-around lineman in this draft class.

5. player. 31. . Edge. New York Giants. George Karlaftis

The New York Giants took on the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 14 as a big-time underdog, especially because Daniel Jones was out. Starting Mike Glennon at quarterback is never a recipe for success, and in the end, the Giants were beaten pretty soundly, losing 37-21 in LaLa Land.

Going into the 2022 NFL Draft, the Giants have two early first-round picks, and if the season ended tomorrow, they would be back-to-back. With the first of two first-round picks in a row, the Giants improve their pass rush, bringing in George Karlaftis, who has the potential to be a double-digit sack guy at the NFL level right away.

player. 31. . Offensive Lineman. New York Giants. Ikem Ekwonu. 6

As we stated earlier, the New York Giants hold two first-round picks in 2022, and right now, those picks would be back-to-back. That would mean a crazy war room for whoever is the general manager next offseason, as it is pretty clear that Dave Gettleman is not going to be the one calling the shots.

At pick No. 6, the Giants go out and bolster the other side of the line, bringing in Ikem Ekwonu from NC State, the most versatile offensive lineman in this draft class. New York has to continue to build up the offensive line, and in Ekwonu, they get a guy who can play inside or out in front of Jones.
