National Signing Day: 5 recruits with No. 1 NFL Draft pick upside

Conner Weigman, QB, Texas A&M

We now move onto the second-rated quarterback in the recruiting class in Bridgeland’s Conner Weigman.

This season, Weigman threw for 2,276 yards, 27 touchdowns and just five interceptions while completing 63.5-percent of his passes, per MaxPreps. Additionally, Weigman ran the ball 89 times for 647 yards and seven touchdowns. As a result of his performance throughout the season, the senior was named the Greater Houston Offensive Player of the Year by the Touchdown Club of Houston.

Back in February, Weigman announced his commitment to Texas A&M, choosing them over the likes of Texas and Oklahoma. He gets to play under head coach Jimbo Fisher, who coached a former first-overall selection in Jameis Winston. If Weigman succeeds playing in the SEC, he will get plenty of attention from the NFL.

Cade Klubnik, QB, Clemson

The final quarterback to make this list happens to be the highest-ranked quarterback in the entire class — Westlake’s Cade Klubnik.

The five-star recruit shined during his senior season, as he completed 71.7-percent of his passes for 2,971 yards, 39 touchdowns and only two interceptions. As a result of his play this year, he was named Gatorade’s Texas Football Player of the Year and was named as one of three finalists for the Gatorade National Football Player of the Year award.

Klubnik is joining a prestigious Clemson program that has won National Championships and saw some solid quarterbacks enter the NFL. Trevor Lawrence was the first-overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft and Deshaun Watson was selected in the first round by the Houston Texans in 2017. Klubnik has a chance to compete for the National Championship and potentially play his way to the first-overall selection.
