Detroit Lions: Roy Williams

The Lions had a stretch where taking receivers in the first round of the NFL Draft was their favorite thing to do. In 2004, they took Roy Williams with the seventh overall pick, and it looked as if he was going to be a star.

He caught 54 passes for eight touchdowns as a rookie. He missed three games in 2005, but caught eight touchdowns, once again. In 2006, he was a Pro Bowler, hauling in 82 passes for over 1,300 yards and seven touchdowns.

Williams missed four games in 2007, and Detroit traded him to the Cowboys in the middle of the 2008 season. This is a rare case of the Lions doing something right in 2008. Williams failed to find any success in Dallas, never catching more than 38 passes with the Cowboys. The former No. 1 overall pick was out of Dallas by 2011 where he had his final season with the Chicago Bears.

Williams got out of a horrible situation in Detroit, who was in the middle of losing every game of the season in 2008. What should have been a fresh start was actually somewhat exposing. Fair or not, he seemed to shine in Detroit as a result of being a big fish in a small pond.
