Every NFL team’s most overrated player of all time
Never has there ever been a player who was treated like an elite player for making one play that mattered in his entire career.
You all know the story so we’ll keep it brief- Malcolm Butler intercepted Russell Wilson’s pass at the goal line of Super Bowl XLIX to steal the win for the Patriots over the Seahawks. He was the 80th cornerback on the roster ahead of the season and was at the right place at the right time to make the play-good for him.
The only problem was that after the game, everyone acted like Malcolm Butler was this lockdown cornerback. He earned a starting role with the Patriots that offseason and was even a Pro Bowler in 2015. He left New England for Tennessee in the mass exodus of former Patriots signing with either Tennessee or Detroit in 2018.
2015 was his only Pro Bowl appearance. He was never an elite, lockdown cornerback. The truth is that he was just an average player who made a great play. It didn’t have to be anything more than that, but it doesn’t seem like that can ever be the case in the NFL.
