Buffalo Bills: Steve Tasker

Every Bills fan in their mother north of Lake Erie will tell you that Steve Tasker is the greatest special teams player of all time and that he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.

While that point can certainly be argued, there is no arguing that Tasker is underrated. In terms of punt coverage, Tasker was to the Bills what Matthew Slater is to the Patriots today. There’s an argument that can be made for Slater having surpassed Tasker as the best gunner of all time, but that’s beside the point.

Tasker was a seven-time Pro Bowler throughout his career, all of the selections coming as a special teamer. Tasker did get the occasional offensive touch, which would usually pop the Buffalo faithful. On top of his excellent punt coverage, Tasker had 51 catches in his career and nine receiving touchdowns. While Tasker was never a go-to receiver or an electrifying playmaker with the ball in his hands, he was the best at his position for the entirety of his career, which counts for something. The clamoring for his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame will always be heard from Bills fans.
