Chicago Bears: Jay Cutler

While Bears fans have their gripes with Cutler, and rightfully so, that doesn’t change the fact that he is the best quarterback in the franchise’s history.

The Bears acquired Cutler in 2009 from the Broncos, who were in year one of the Josh McDaniels experiment and drafted a certain quarterback from Florida who liked praying. The Bears sent Kyle Orton to Denver as part of the deal, and Cutler was the new starter in Chicago. Year one with the Bears didn’t go as planned for Cutler. He threw 27 touchdowns, but also 26 interceptions, and the Bears finished 7-9.

The following season was better. The Bears won the NFC North and made it to the NFC Championship Game. Cutler threw 23 touchdowns and got Chicago to within one game of the Super Bowl before getting injured in the game.

Sure, Cutler wears the label of “Guy who didn’t care,” and he looks like the walking embodiment of a Marlboro Menthol, but he is the best Bears quarterback of the last 30 years. Jim McMahon is the only one who would have the argument of being better than Cutler, and even that would take some convincing.
