Minnesota Vikings: 3 players who won’t be back in 2022
By Scott Rogust
Patrick Peterson, CB
It was always going to be weird seeing Patrick Peterson wear anything but an Arizona Cardinals uniform. But, he walked into unrestricted free agency at the start of the 2021 league year and signed a one-year, $8 million deal with the Vikings.
Peterson participated in 10 games entering the team’s Week 16 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. The former fifth-overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft recorded 32 tackles (two for loss) and three defended passes. In coverage, Peterson allowed 33 completions for 388 yards and two touchdowns on 56 targets, per Pro Football Reference.
The 31-year-old cornerback is set to become a free agent at the end of the 2021 season. Bryant McFadden, Peterson’s cousin, has said that Peterson would like to re-sign with the Vikings and that he has embraced playing for Minnesota. If Peterson wants to do so, he may have to take a discount. Again, that all depends on what moves the Vikings make this offseason when it comes to the coaching staff and front office.
