Did Josh Allen secure the NFL MVP in Week 16 win over Patriots?
By Ethan Lee
While many may be focused elsewhere, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen continues to have an excellent season. Is he worthy of being the NFL MVP?
Josh Allen has been a significant figure in the Buffalo Bills success this year. The 25-year-old quarterback hasn’t always been the most consistent player ever, but he has been able to help elevate the Bills when he’s playing at his best.
What he did against the New England Patriots Sunday was pretty close to his ceiling. In a 33-21 win over New England, Allen completed 63.8 percent of his passes for 314 yards and three touchdowns while avoiding tossing any interceptions.
But it wasn’t just this game that was good for Allen. If you look at his progress up to this point this season as a whole, Allen has been really good.
Entering Sunday’s game against the Patriots, Allen has thrown for 3,734 yards and 31 touchdowns against 12 interceptions. He’s also completing a solid 65.2 percent of his passes. Along with that, Allen has run for 555 yards and four more touchdowns.
But is that enough to get him the MVP this year?
NFL MVP race: Will Josh Allen be crowned this season’s NFL MVP?
Allen is having a solid season and Bills fans should be thrilled with the way their quarterback has developed up to this point in his career. However, he’s probably not making it through the crowded field of NFL MVP candidates this season. Allen simply hasn’t done enough, even with this performance against the Patriots.
With guys like Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Matthew Stafford, Jonathan Taylor, and Patrick Mahomes all in the running this season, Allen likely faces too much of an uphill climb with too little time left to make up the difference.
