2022 NFL Draft: Jacksonville Jaguars add an elite edge rusher
Picks No. 7 through 10
It is starting to get real ugly for the Carolina Panthers, who were pasted at home by division rival Tampa Bay in Week 16, and had to watch them win the NFC South division. The good feelings of the team bringing back Cam Newton have gone away, and this is an organization with plenty of question marks heading into the offseason.
It remains to be seen whether or not Sam Darnold will be the team’s quarterback next season, but you have to think that will be the case after they gave him a deal when they traded for him. If it is the case, they need to bring in talent along the offensive line, making NC State offensive lineman Ikem Ekwonu the selection here at No. 7 overall.
The New York Giants have posted an incredible statistic over the last five seasons, but it is not one that fans of the team should be proud of. In the last five years, the Giants have yet to be over .500 at any point, a real testament to just how lost this franchise is right now.
To change things up, we like the Giants picking a quarterback here at No. 8 overall, bringing in Kenny Pickett from Pitt to challenge Daniel Jones for the starting job next season. Jones is a guy who has not accomplished much in his NFL career up to this point, and Pickett could be just the shot in the arm this franchise needs.
The Washington Football have fallen on hard times as of late, and have played their way outside of the playoff picture in the NFC. Still, there are some exciting things to take out of this season, including the play of Taylor Heinicke, who should be kept on as the franchise quarterback moving forward.
At pick No. 9 overall, the Washington Football Team looks to add talent in front of Heinicke, bringing in Texas A&M offensive lineman Kenyon Green. This is a guy who could play tackle or guard at the next level, and the WFT is going to need all the help they can get upfront this offseason.
The Atlanta Falcons continue to make an improbable push towards a possible playoff spot, this time beating the Detroit Lions at home to move their record to 7-8. Sure, it may be a longshot for them to actually make the playoffs, but one thing is for sure, this team is playing hard down the stretch.
Looking ahead to the 2022 NFL Draft, there are a lot of routes the Falcons could go, including adding a franchise quarterback if they decide to move on from Matt Ryan. If they stick with Ryan, look for them to focus on the defensive line here, adding Jordan Davis from Georgia, a defensive tackle who is solid against the run and the pass.
