Iowa: Kurt Warner

Well, they made a movie about Warner’s journey from Arena League to Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Warner won the NFL MVP in his first year as a starter in 1999 with the Rams. We all know the story- Trent Green gets injured, Dick Vermeil cries, Kurt Warner plays out of his mind, the Rams turn into one of the best offenses of all time and win the Super Bowl. It really couldn’t have gone any better in that 1999 season.

Warner seemed to fade out after leaving the Rams and bouncing around to the Giants and Cardinals, but then he somehow led the little engine that could-Cardinals to Super Bowl XLIII. They didn’t quite get the job done, but what a story it was for Warner.

Kansas: Jim Everett

Congratulations, Kansas. You are the latest entrant into the “State with the worst quarterbacks” sweepstakes. Lynn Dickey was almost the choice if not only for the shootout he and the Packers had with Joe Theismann and Washington in 1983.

Lo and behold, though, Jim Everett is the best quarterback from Kansas. Everett was the signal caller for the rams for eight seasons, and he put together a few solid years. He led the NFL in touchdown passes in both 1988 and ‘89, and somehow was a Pro Bowler in neither season.

He was, however, a Pro Bowler in 1990. He finished his career with over 34,000 passing yards and 203 touchdown passes- respectable numbers for a solid starter.
