2. Ole Miss Rebels

As mentioned, the Ole Miss Rebels were in on Caleb Williams as a recruit, though they didn’t make the final five list that Penn State found its way on. But also mentioned is the fact that the lead recruiter for the Rebels in that process was Jeff Lebby, who is no longer with the program after taking the Oklahoma offensive coordinator job.

That does complicate things a bit in terms of seeing the one-to-one connection for Williams to reconsider Ole Miss as a viable option. Having said that, Lane Kiffin’s track record with and without Lebby speaks for itself in its own right and the head coach could be putting his crosshairs on the quarterback to try and step into a pretty big void now at quarterback.

While Luke Altmyer stepped in for injured Matt Corral — who is all but surely on his way to the NFL now — in the Sugar Bowl and played admirably, he’s quite clearly not ready to give the Rebels the success that they enjoyed with Corral leading the way, at least with the same type of consistency.

When you look at Williams, though, his physical traits would seemingly give Kiffin and Ole Miss a suped-up version of what they had in Corral. He’s a bigger-bodied but equally capable runner with a bit bigger arm and room to grow as a passer as well. That could be magic under Kiffin with how he likes to operate. So with the spot potentially opened up, the fit most certainly makes sense.
