1. LSU Tigers

If you’re looking for the most natural fit in terms of availability, then you shouldn’t look much further than the LSU Tigers and head coach Brian Kelly. Put simply, their quarterback situation as they enter a new era in Baton Rouge could not be less certain at this point and they need to find some answers pretty darn quick.

The one silver lining at the position is well-experienced signal-caller Myles Brennan, who initially had entered the transfer portal, has elected to return to the Tigers this season. And they did sign a highly recruited quarterback in this year’s class with Walker Howard heading to LSU. But Brennan has never inspired a ton of confidence when he’s seen the field. As for Howard, he’s talented but also might need polishing to adapt to the college game.

With the talent Kelly and LSU are capable of bringing into the fold — and with the expectations of the program — the new head coach needs to win right away. That doesn’t necessarily mean national championship aspirations but it does mean being a legitimate threat in the SEC and not a doormat.

Landing Caleb Williams, who had LSU in his top five as a recruit (though with the Ed Orgeron staff in place), would help to accomplish that. We’ve seen the quarterback produce well against Power 5 competition already and his dual-threat ability would give the Tigers offense an element that, frankly, they are clearly lacking as their roster currently stands.
