NFL power rankings, Week 18: How far did Chiefs, Cowboys fall after stunning losses?
NFL Power Rankings: Week 18
By all indications, Monday night’s clash with the rival Browns would be the final home game for Steelers’ veteran Ben Roethlisberger. When it comes to the team, Mike Tomlin’s squad was looking to remain in the conference’s wild card race.
On Sunday afternoon, the Cincinnati Bengals captured the AFC North, meaning the Steelers would not be repeating as division champions. It’s been a long year for a Pittsburgh defense that is dead last vs. the run.
It wasn’t long ago that John Harbaugh’s squad was looking at the top spot in not only the AFC North but the conference as well. The Ravens took a four-game losing streak into their clash with the Rams.
Tyler Huntley got the start and had his issues. He was sacked five times and picked off once. Safety Chuck Cecil intercepted Matthew Stafford twice. Baltimore took a 16-7 lead into the fourth quarter but couldn’t protect it and fell short again.
A year after making their first playoff appearance since 2002, there were high expectations for Kevin Stefanski’s team. But there will be no division title for the Browns after the Bengals wrapped up the AFC North on Sunday.
There will also be no second consecutive trip to the postseason. Quarterback Baker Mayfield has tried to play through injury but with mixed results. And a revamped defensive unit was inconsistent at best this season.
