Cowboys bold predictions, Leighton Vander Esch

2. Leighton Vander Esch will notch double-digit tackles again

Vander Esch’s impact for the Dallas defense has waxed and waned this season, but his talents were on full display against Arizona last week. He logged 10 total tackles to pace his unit including an impressive eight solo stops.

Cynical Cowboys fans will correctly point out that Vander Esch’s big day wasn’t accompanied by any sort of meaningful success for his defense. That doesn’t change the fact that Dallas would have given up even more yards and points last weekend if not for their versatile linebacker.

The Eagles aren’t going to threaten Dallas vertically which means they’ll need to try to outflank the defense with a lot of perimeter plays. Vander Esch’s speed makes him the ideal sort of linebacker to thrive against that kind of tactic.

Vander Esch needs more help from his teammates if Dallas is going to secure a big win on Saturday night, but he’s a good bet to enjoy another productive individual game. Double-digit tackles should be the rule rather than the exception for Vander Esch moving forward.
