2022 NFL Mock Draft: Houston Texans pass on a QB, stick with Davis Mills
Picks No. 11 through 14
The Denver Broncos were blasted by the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 17, as Drew Lock continues to prove that he is not a starting quarterback at the NFL level. This is a position group the Broncos have to target early in the 2022 NFL Draft, and they get their future franchise guy here at pick No. 11 overall.
That player is Matt Corral, who I believe will be the second quarterback off the board, even coming off the injury in the bowl game. Corral is a guy who can fling the ball all over the field, has good accuracy, and mobility, and would likely be an instant starter in Denver.
The Minnesota Vikings faltered down the stretch of the season, and despite good numbers from Kirk Cousins all season long, the time has come for them to make a change. His not being available in Week 17 may have been the final straw for him in Minnesota, so picking a quarterback here at No. 12 overall makes sense.
That quarterback could be Malik Willis, who I believe has the highest ceiling of any quarterback available in this draft class. He played at a small school in college, so that is something to keep an eye on, but based on pure talent, he is going to be a first-round pick this April.
One of the biggest questions of the offseason in the NFL will be what the Cleveland Browns plan to do at quarterback. Baker Mayfield really struggled this season after a strong start, and despite him having to gut through some tough injuries, the franchise could decide to go in another direction.
However, if they decide to stay with Mayfield, they have to get him more talent on the outside, and that player could be Garrett Wilson here at No. 13 overall. Wilson is an elite wide receiver prospect, and in Cleveland, he would be staying home in Ohio after dominating at Ohio State.
The Philadelphia Eagles hold three first-round picks in the 2022 NFL Draft, and their first selection will come at No. 14 overall. Needing help all over the roster, the Eagles will look to add talent to the defense in a big way in the first round, starting with this pick, bringing in an elite cornerback prospect.
That prospect is Ahmad Gardner from Cincinnati, who many believe is the best cornerback available in this draft class. While I believe that is Derek Stingley Jr., Gardner is not far behind, and he should go in the first half of the first round this April.
