Even with Matt Nagy and Ryan Pace gone, the Bears have plenty of work to do.

The Chicago Bears have fired head coach Matt Nagy and general manager Ryan Pace after another mediocre season lacking progress and vision. Both men combined for zero playoff wins and zero developed quarterbacks.

Changes are coming to Chicago, hopefully for the better. But it is imperative the Bears make the correct moves at the front office and leadership levels to change the culture and the direction of the franchise. The opportunity is there, and there are some big names available and interested in the openings within the league’s charter franchise. Here are three things the Chicago Bears can do to start their journey back to contending for a Super Bowl sooner rather than later.

The Bears need to either shift Ted Phillips out of football operations

Ted Phillips is a businessman who has been in charge of football operations in the Chicago Bears franchise for over thirty years. More importantly to his employment, he is very close and a very good friend to the McCaskey family.

Phillips is a guy that can handle the books, not a football team. If the Bears are serious about the changes needed in the organization, Phillips either needs to be shifted to a business operations role or be terminated. He is a man that is capable of organizing and maintaining progress in a potential move to Arlington Heights for the Bears, but he is not capable of building and maintaining a football team trying to compete for a Super Bowl title.

What this would do is open an additional and important role within the Bears’ front office that needs to be filled, along side general manager and head coach. If the Bears do their research, they might be able to fill two spots in one.
