College basketball power rankings: Top 10 shaken up after some big losses

5. Week 10 College Basketball Rankings: Auburn Tigers (7)

  • Record: 14-1 (3-0 in SEC)
  • Last Week: Won 81-66 at South Carolina, Won 85-73 vs. Florida
  • This Week: At Alabama 1/11, At Ole Miss 1/15

The SEC looks like it’s Auburn’s league to lose after the Tigers posted an effortless 2-0 week headlined by a double-digit win over a good Florida team at home. Bruce Pearl’s squad hits the road for a pair this week with the heavier lift coming on Tuesday against a talented Alabama team that will be mad after its loss to Missouri over the weekend.

4. Week 10 College Basketball Rankings: Purdue Boilermakers (2)

  • Record: 13-2 (2-2 in Big Ten)
  • Last Week: Lost 74-69 vs. No. 23 Wisconsin, Won 74-67 at Penn State
  • This Week: Matchup at Michigan 1/11 postponed, Vs. Nebraska 1/14

The Boilermakers’ loss to Wisconsin on Monday was a strange one and Purdue didn’t inspire much confidence by having to work very hard to win in Happy Valley over the weekend. COVID issues for Michigan wiped out one game for Purdue, which will now wait to get back on the floor until Friday’s home date against Nebraska.

3. Week 10 College Basketball Rankings: UCLA Bruins (6)

  • Record: 10-1 (2-0 in Pac-12)
  • Last Week: Won 96-78 vs. Long Beach State, Won 60-52 at California
  • This Week: Vs. Oregon 1/13, Vs. Oregon State 1/15

The COVID pause finally ended for UCLA, which won a non-conference tune-up against Long Beach State before winning a true road game at Cal on Saturday. The Oregon schools come to Pauley Pavilion this week with Thursday’s game against Oregon the more intriguing matchup for the Bruins.

2. Week 10 College Basketball Rankings: Gonzaga Bulldogs (3)

  • Record: 12-2 (1-0 in WCC)
  • Last Week: Won 117-73 vs. Pepperdine
  • This Week: Vs. BYU 1/13, At Santa Clara 1/15

Gonzaga returned from a COVID pause of its own by starting WCC play with a dominant win over Pepperdine. While fans wait to see when last week’s originally scheduled home date with San Francisco is rescheduled, this week offers an excellent showdown in Spokane with BYU coming to town on Thursday night.

1. Week 10 College Basketball Power Rankings: Baylor Bears (1)

  • Record: 15-0 (3-0 in Big 12)
  • Last Week: Won 84-74 vs. Oklahoma, Won 76-64 at TCU
  • This Week: Vs. Texas Tech 1/11, Vs. Oklahoma State 1/15

Another perfect week helps Baylor maintain its place atop the rankings. A two-game homestand is on tap for the Bears with Texas Tech and Oklahoma State coming to town but if Baylor plays up to its potential these should lead to two wins.
