Matt Olson – First Baseman

When it comes to trade candidates this offseason, Matt Olson is the biggest prize that we know of. Olson had 39 home runs last season despite playing half of his games in the Oakland Coliseum. If he can drive bombs in that spacious stadium, imagine what he could do at Truist Park. Olson is the prize at first base, but there will be a lot of teams in on him. That includes the Yankees, Brewers, and Rangers.

Olson would be a perfect fit to replace Freddie Freeman in the lineup, if the Braves opt not to re-sign him. He would replace his power, his defense is elite, and he is a total package just like Freeman.

If the Braves lose Freeman, they need someone to take the mantle of franchise player. Acuña is a good bet to take that spot, but Olson could also take some of the load off of the outfielder. Olson would also make things sting a little less for the Braves fans who could no longer root for Freeman.

This is a win-win situation for the Braves. They’d have to trade the world to make it happen. Outfield prospect Cristian Pache would almost definitely be part of the deal, as he’s on the cusp of being major-league ready.
