The New York Yankees are also in the first base market, and that’s because of their lack of faith in Luke Voit’s ability to stay healthy. Honestly, the Braves could make this deal happen even if they re-sign Freeman. Many believe at the end of the lockout, the National League will employ a universal DH rule, perhaps opening up a spot for Voit.

Voit has some of the highest upside in baseball right now. He led all of baseball with 22 home runs in 2020, the pandemic-shortened season. He was great for the Yankees that season, but he had a nightmare campaign in 2021.

Voit was placed on the injured list four different times in 2021. He missed the Yankees Wild Card loss to the Red Sox. Now, it looks like he’s the odd man out in the Yankees infield.

The Yankees and Braves could make a move that is good for both sides. Voit won’t cost a lot, but he could bring back a few low-end prospects in return.

The Braves are in a position where they could take a chance on a player like Voit. They have a lot of equity with the fanbase after winning the World Series. Making this kind of move has a ton of upside without a lot of risk.
