2022 NFL Mock Draft: Draft order set for first 18 picks
Picks No. 19 through 22
As we stated earlier, the Philadelphia Eagles hold three first-round picks in the 2022 NFL Draft and will do so as a playoff team from the year before. The No. 19 overall pick for the Eagles are the one they earned by taking down a Wild Card spot in the NFC and is one where they should look to add talent coming off the edge.
Drake Jackson from USC is an exciting edge rusher who I believe is one of the more NFL-ready defensive linemen in this draft class. The Eagles need more guys who can get after the quarterback, and in Jackson, they get a player who should have at least six sacks as a rookie next season.
Incredibly, the Pittsburgh Steelers punched their ticket to the playoffs this past Sunday, though they had to stay up late to do so. After beating the Baltimore Ravens in overtime during the 1 PM ET slate, the Steelers needed there to be no tie in the Raiders vs Chargers game to get in, and they got their wish thanks to a Daniel Carlson field goal as overtime expired.
Now, they make the trek to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs in the Wild Card round, a game that should be Ben Roethlisberger’s last as the franchise quarterback. In his void, the Steelers could decide to choose Desmond Ridder from Cincinnati, a signal-caller who can get the job done on the ground, and through the air.
The New England Patriots were a team that did not make the playoffs a season ago, their first season without Tom Brady as their starting quarterback. In 2021, they righted the ship, as the defense got a bunch of players back, and for the most part, rookie Mac Jones did a terrific job coming in and being productive as the starter in Year 1.
In the playoffs, the Patriots will face a familiar foe in the Wild Card round, as they head to Buffalo to play the AFC East rival Bills. If they lose, they will be picking here at No. 21 overall, and with the selection, they get Jones another weapon, adding Ohio State star wide receiver Chris Olave.
Despite missing the playoffs, the Miami Dolphins will have their eyes on the Wild Card round, as they currently hold the San Francisco 49ers’ first-round pick. The hope for Miami is that San Francisco gets bounced in the Wild Card round, as the quicker they fall, the better the pick for them next April.
At pick No. 22, the Dolphins need to continue to bolster the offensive line, and they do so by adding Iowa star Tyler Linderbaum. This is a guy who can play on the outside, or along the interior at the next level, but first things first, the Dolphins need a new head coach to lead this franchise’s next era.
