Skip Bayless was not impressed with the job Mike McCarthy did getting the Dallas Cowboys ready for the San Francisco 49ers.

The Cowboys hosting the 49ers in the NFC Wild Card was supposed to give Mike McCarthy and his team the opportunity to prove to fans this is their year.

Of course, things couldn’t have started with more of a dud.

Dallas looked sluggish as Jimmy Garoppolo led San Francisco to an early 13-0 lead. The Cowboys didn’t score until there were less than six minutes remaining in the first half to cut the deficit, 13-7.

Skip Bayless blamed Mike McCarthy for the Cowboys slow start

Skip Bayless doesn’t hold back when it comes to commentary on the Cowboys, so it’s not surprising he had some harsh thoughts on the performance.

“Mike McCarthy’s pregame speech must have been a doozy — all-time lame,” Bayless tweeted. “The 49ers came out like gangbusters, the Cowboys like zombies.”

He has a point about that one. The 49ers had to scrape their way to the playoffs with a resurgent performance from Garoppolo and a “bully ball” mentality. They looked like they were ready to give the Cowboys a punch in the mouth from the opening whistle.

Dallas, on the other hand, looked shellshocked after San Francisco marched 75 yards down the field in seven plays for a touchdown on their opening drive. While the defense tightened up somewhat to force field goals on the next three possessions, it took the offense a while to put together any sort of a drive. Miscues and penalties definitely didn’t help matters for the home side.
