Browns DT arrested on disturbing public exposure charges

Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Malik McDowell was arrested on disturbing charges Monday.

After his first season with the Cleveland Browns, defensive tackle Malik McDowell is in hot water with Broward County after Monday’s disturbing incident.

McDowell was arrested on Monday on “charges of aggravated battery of an officer, resisting an officer with violence and exposing his sexual organs in public.” He walked into a children’s learning center in Deerfield Beach and then proceeded to attack a deputy. McDowell made his first court appearance to hear the charges in front of a judge on Tuesday morning.

“We are aware of the very concerning incident and arrest involving Malik McDowell and are in the process of gathering more information,” said the Browns in a statement. “We understand the severity of this matter and our thoughts are for the well-being of all involved. We will have no further comment at this time.”

McDowell had been a second-round pick out of Michigan State by the Seattle Seahawks in the 2017 NFL Draft. Off-the-field issues kept the former Big Ten standout from playing in Seattle. He spent time in prison from a series of incidents that happened in 2019. McDowell was released by the Seahawks without playing a meaningful down for the franchise. He resurfaced with Cleveland.

The 25-year-old defensive lineman from Detroit played in 15 games for the 2021 Browns, recording 19 combined tackles and three being sacks. While the talent has seemingly always been there, McDowell once again finds himself in trouble with the law. Attacking a police officer naked inside of a children’s learning facility in South Florida on MLK Day may lead to his Browns release.

McDowell had a strong first season with the Browns, but he has way bigger issues at hand now.
