Can Cardinals trade for Trey Mancini?

Trey Mancini can play outfield and first base and is entering his third year of being arbitration-eligible with the Baltimore Orioles. He will be a free agent in 2023.

Mancini played in 147 games in 2021, hitting .255/.326/.432 with a +105 wRC. He had 21 home runs and 71 RBI. These numbers come after Mancini missed the 2020 season recovering chemotherapy treatments due to a stage 3 colon cancer diagnosis. Just amazing.

It would be interesting to see how Mancini would perform at Busch Stadium and regularly in National League ballparks. In 2021, he had a .998 fielding percentage at first base. Mancini could concentrate solely on hitting in the designated hitter slot or provide relief to Paul Goldschmidt, Dylan Carlson, or Tyler O’Neill.

With 2023 being his first season eligible for free agency, this 2022 season will be very important to Mancini to show off everything he has to over. It would be interesting to see him have that opportunity with a storied franchise set on winning.
