Mitch Haniger: Cardinals add more outfield depth in trade with Mariners

Mitch Haniger is a right-handed right fielder who has also spent some time as the designated hitter. Haniger is in his last season of arbitration eligibility and will be a free agent in 2023.

Haniger had a pretty great 2021 season hitting .253/.318/.485 with a +120 wRC. Haniger had 39 home runs, 23 doubles, two singles and 100 RBI.

He is beloved in Seattle. Needless to say, it would take a lot to move him from the club. But, we are going into his last year of arbitration and a probable big payday in 2023 if he were to remain and have another big season. The 2022 season is huge for Haniger.

If the Cardinals were to nab him from the Mariners, he would be an intriguing fit for the club. While it would bring a battle in right field with Dylan Carlson, Haniger could also earn the designated hitter slot. Imagine Carlson remaining in the lineup and having Haniger at DH. It would create some real intrigue for the team.
