Is Jimmy Garoppolo injury more serious than 49ers are letting on?
Jimmy Garoppolo is banged up heading into the 49ers’ Divisional Round matchup with the Packers, but is the quarterback more injured than we realize?
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has dealt with a number of injuries over the years and, most recently, missed a game late in the regular season with a hand ailment. That is still bothering him a bit and is something fans have been monitoring throughout the playoffs.
However, the injury situation with Jimmy G might be more serious than is being let on by the Niners.
For starters, it appears that Garoppolo is dealing with a shoulder injury suffered in the win over the Cowboys on Sunday, though he ducked a question about it in a way on Tuesday.
More concerning, though, is that the quarterback seemed noticeably non-commital about starting against the Packers in the Divisional Round while rumors swirl that his availability is very much in doubt.
Jimmy Garoppolo injury: Is 49ers QB hurt worse than fans realize?
Judging by the signals we’re being given, it would appear that Garoppolo might be much more hurt than we’re being outwardly told by the 49ers.
Now, San Francisco obviously has uber-talented rookie Trey Lance on the roster as the backup plan if Jimmy G can’t go. But at the same time, there’s a reason that the organization spent the No. 3 overall pick (which they traded up for) on the quarterback and have stuck with Garoppolo. In the plainest terms, Lance isn’t ready.
Garoppolo and the 49ers showed in Dallas that they can very much be a threat to take the NFC in the playoffs at full strength. But if the rumblings about the quarterback’s injuries and the signs turn out to be right in pointing towards something more serious, that’s a real problem for San Francisco.
