Despite suffering a personal tragedy, world-class skier Mikaela Shiffrin is all set to try and win gold at the Winter Olympics.

Without question one of the best skiers of her generation, Mikaela Shiffrin is focused on winning her third Gold medal at the Winter Olympics. With two to her name, plus three overall World Cup titles, Shiffrin is hungry for more success in Beijing.

However, she’ll continue to perform with a heavy heart after the loss of her dad, Jeff, in February of 2020. While Shiffrin had openly said she has struggled to find the motivation to keep competing after the loss of her dad, she’ll indeed be at the Winter Olympics starting on Feb. 4.

There had been plenty of speculation that Shiffrin would potentially decide to skip out on the games in Beijing, but that’s not the case, as she’s ready to compete. Some additional adversity has also recently come in for Shiffrin who experienced a bout with COVID.

While she’s been able to recover, her long-time coach and trainer Jeff Lackie has also battled COVID and it was just announced earlier this week that Lackie won’t be able to move forward coaching Shiffrin leading up to the Olympics.

Despite that, Shiffrin remains focused and she has a chance to make history in Beijing next month. She enters the Winter Olympics with three total medals in her career. She’s all set to participate in five events.

If things go perfectly, she could end up with eight total medals, which would make her the most successful skier ever in the Olympics. It most certainly won’t be easy, but Shiffrin certainly has a great chance of making that happen.
