2022 NFL Mock Draft: Playoffs continue to shape first round

Picks No. 4 through 6

4. player. 30. . Cornerback. New York Jets. Derek Stingley Jr.

The New York Jets hold two of the first ten picks in the 2022 NFL Draft, a mighty bounty for a franchise looking to finally become relevant again. This past season, we saw flashes from quarterback Zach Wilson, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, but this team is a long way away from being a legitimate contender in the AFC.

Holding these two picks is huge for second-year head coach Robert Saleh, and with this one here at No. 4 overall, they add the best cornerback in this draft class. Derek Stingley Jr. is a player who is going to make a massive impact on Day 1, giving the Jets their best cornerback since Darrelle Revis patrolled their defensive backfield.

player. 31. . Offensive Lineman. New York Giants. Ikem Ekwonu. 5

The team the New York Jets share MetLife Stadium with has already made some moves this offseason, firing head coach Joe Judge, and seeing Dave Gettleman retire as their general manager. That means wholesale changes are coming with the New York Giants, a team that could certainly move on from quarterback Daniel Jones.

Instead of going that route, maybe the Giants should continue to bolster their offensive line, and they do so by bringing in NC State offensive tackle Ikem Ekwonu here at pick No. 5 overall. Ekwonu is someone who can come in and start right away, and if the Giants can finally upgrade this offensive line, Jones may be able to reach his potential.

player. 87. . Quarterback. Carolina Panthers. Kenny Pickett. 6

This season was a tough one for the Carolina Panthers, who traded for Sam Darnold to be their franchise quarterback, and just like the Jets, were disappointed by the play on the field. Then, they went out and brought in former franchise quarterback Cam Newton, but as he did in New England last season, Newton showed he is no longer an NFL quarterback.

So, with pick No. 6 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, our first quarterback comes off the board, and that signal-caller is Kenny Pickett from Pitt. Pickett is considered by many to be the best in the group this season, but based on the draft cycle, we could see any number of quarterbacks end up in Carolina here in the top-10.
