Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians was fined $50,000 for hitting his own player Andrew Adams in the helmet during last weekend’s playoff game vs. the Philadelphia Eagles.

The NFL is not messing around by fining Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians $50,000 for hitting his own safety Andrew Adams in the helmet during last week’s playoff victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

While hitting a player in the helmet does not seem like a big deal, optically, it was a bad look for Arians, the Buccaneers and the NFL. Therefore, the league decided Arians has to give $50,000 to charity for striking Adams in the helmet. The league also fined Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill for celebrating and Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald for choking a guy.

No league is more consistently inconsistent when it comes to doling out fines and punishments than the NFL.

Again, the NFL understands that head coaches need to lead by example. Arians may go to the beat of his own drum, but you cannot hit a player in the helmet on a nationally televised game. This comes only a handful of weeks removed since news of Urban Meyer kicking Josh Lambo in the injured hamstring ultimately led to his dismissal as the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The good news is people actually like Arians, so it is not like the Buccaneers will have a mutiny and make their Super Bowl-winning head coach walk the plank. They have a huge NFC Divisional Round game at home on Sunday afternoon vs. Matthew Stafford, Sean McVay and the rest of the Rams. He just needs to make sure Donald does not get under his offensive line’s skin on Sunday.

Arians, Donald and Hill can look forward to seeing their bank accounts take a hit after last week.
