3 Packers who won’t be back after disappointing playoff exit
Kevin King
The Packers decided to bring back Kevin King on a one-year contract for 2021. It was a prove-it deal meant to decide once and for all if the 2017 second-round pick was worth investing in any longer.
The answer is no.
King had questions about his availability throughout the first four seasons of his career and injuries became an issue once again in 2021. He played in 10 games during the regular season, failing once again to finish a campaign in full.
His play during 2021 wasn’t good enough to justify his place any longer either. The Packers continue to develop the likes of Eric Stokes and found a diamond-in-the-rough in Rasul Douglas.
Even a huge performance in the playoffs seemed unlikely to change the equation for King. That doesn’t matter since he didn’t produce one. His biggest highlight of the night came from a Deebo Samuel trucking.
There doesn’t seem to be a scenario for keeping King that makes sense for Green Bay. It’s time for him to enter the next phase of his career and for the Packers to move forward with others.
