Brian Flores could have this team stay competitive immediately upon arrival

If the Saints were smart, they would give strong consideration to the best head coach that was fired this offseason in former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores. While it is always a tricky proposition to hire a head coach off the Bill Belichick coaching tree, many people believe Flores is different. It was more of a clash of personalities that led to his undoing in South Florida this year.

Even though the Saints do not have a long-term solution at quarterback, Flores proved he could win a ton of games without being ecstatic about his starting signal-caller. Tua Tagovailoa is fine, but he is not on the same level of the best young quarterbacks the AFC has to offer. If Flores can post winning records in dysfunction Miami, imagine what he can do with New Orleans stability?

Ultimately, the Saints need to do their homework before offering Flores the job. Going with a defensive-minded head coach in an increasingly offensive league could be disastrous. It remains to be seen what type of staff he could assemble that is not completely entrenched with New England Patriots guys. Maybe he gives Bill O’Brien a call and gets him to leave Tuscaloosa?

Allen, Bieniemy and Flores are candidates worth interviewing for the New Orleans opening.
