5 trades to help the Boston Celtics fix what’s broken
2. Celtics trade for Marvin Bagley
Celtics get: Marvin Bagley III
Kings get: Grant Williams, Josh Richardson
In this trade, Boston deals for the Kings’ Marvin Bagley III. The disgruntled young forward has had a tumultuous stint in Sacramento, struggling with injuries, falling out of the rotation earlier this season, and never playing more than 65 games in his first three years in the league. A move to Boston would provide a fresh start, and allow Bagley III to find touches in an offense that is ranked 20th in points in the paint per game.
With Boston’s offense being centered around Tatum and Brown, Bagley would also get the chance to develop other facets of his game, while still finding offensive opportunities through second-chance points, pick-and-roll opportunities, and in spurts as the main option when the two forwards are on the bench.
In return, Sacramento receives another young forward in Grant Williams, who can stretch the floor and fit in multiple lineups. Williams is currently shooting just under 43 percent from the 3-point line, on 3.4 attempts per game. Adding him could also allow the Kings to explore trades for Harrison Barnes and perhaps continue adding additional pieces. Josh Richardson would be another backcourt piece who would bolster the Kings’ bench scoring, along with adding more 3-point shooting for a team that ranks in the bottom half in the league in 3-point percentage.
