3 quarterbacks Bucs can draft to replace Tom Brady
By John Buhler
Matt Corral is the pick for the Buccaneers picking in the latter part of round one
Look. If the Buccaneers want to draft Brady’s replacement this spring, you get what you pay for. Their best option is to trade up from No. 27 and get one of the top two passers in this draft. Unless they want to give up the farm and massively overreach on Kenny Pickett out of Pitt in the top 10, the player they would need to target is Matt Corral out of Ole Miss. This is the right pick.
Corral played in a deep SEC West against elite competition. He helped Ole Miss win 10 games in Lane Kiffin’s second year in Oxford and got to a Sugar Bowl. Ole Miss should not be winning 10 regular-season games, no matter how bad Auburn or LSU are. While Corral has wheels like Ridder and Willis do, he is the more proven passer and did so against better competition for a bit longer.
As far as what a pro comp would be for Corral, he seems to be some variation of Baker Mayfield or Zach Wilson. Unlike those two AFC starters, Corral will be properly drafted and will not go inside of the top-two. As with Pickett, Corral has a shot to go in the top 10, depending on what the Carolina Panthers and Washington decide to do. He may fall to No. 27, but let’s not count on him dropping.
Since Corral compares decently to two low-end franchise quarterbacks, he has to be the pick here.
