Jimmy Garoppolo

Jimmy Garoppolo’s fate with the 49ers was pretty much sealed when the team decided to use the No. 3 draft pick in 2021 on Trey Lance.

They may have stuck with Garoppolo to finish out this season but his future is not in San Francisco. Even a Super Bowl victory wasn’t likely to change that.

Garoppolo’s value isn’t going to get higher than it is right now. After all, he did lead the 49ers to the NFC title game. There are teams in need of quarterbacks out there who don’t have anyone capable of getting close to that.

The 2022 season is the final one on Garoppolo’s contract. San Francisco could go in for another season with him at the helm while Lance keeps developing behind him. It’s just hard to imagine that actually happening.

The 49ers might as well move on with their new quarterback while getting something back for Jimmy G. If they wait, he’ll walk away as a free agent.
