It has been over for Kyle Long for a while now, but what a ride it was for him

It may not save them all that much cap space, but it is over for Kyle Long. It has been for a while. Earlier in his career with the Chicago Bears, he was outstanding. Unfortunately, injuries ruined his career. He never got to be anything close to a hall of famer like his father Howie or a multi-time Super Bowl champion like his older brother Chris. Long did not play in a game the regular season.

While Long tried to give it a go this year, he needs to hang up the spikes. He may have gotten $1.5 million in average annual value to see what he can do. Though his veteran presence may have helped in some capacity, a player’s best ability is availability, and Long has not had that in years. Again, the Chiefs did just fine without him on the playing field, but they need to save some money.

By letting players who did not help them very much this year like Long and Remmers walk, that could help give general manager Brett Veach a little bit extra coin heading into a growing salary cap to make some magic happen. The Chiefs may be able to bring back all of their impending free agents in the defensive backfield, but they must save money elsewhere, which is in the trenches.

Look for the Chiefs to continue to build their offensive line by making smart selections in the draft.
